Wellmune WGP® Selected Studies

Reduces Duration of Cold/Flu Symptoms

Wellmune WGP® significantly reduced the duration of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) symptoms in medical students during the peak of the cold-flu season. In a 90-day study of 100 medical students participants taking Wellmune reported 43 fewer days of symptoms than classmates who received a placebo.

No “sick days”

In a 90-day trial of 40 healthy people aged 18-65 conducted during the cold season those individuals given Wellmune did not take a single “sick day” off work or school compared with 1.38 days for the placebo group. Also—in contrast—those who received Wellmune reported an overall increase in general health markers and no incidence of medically verified fever.

Wellmune’s Marathon Victory

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study 75 marathon runners took Wellmune or a placebo for four weeks. Those who received Wellmune reported 66% fewer upper respiratory tract infections; 48% reduction in fatigue; 38% reduction in tension; 38% reduction in stress-related confusion and a 22% increase in vigor.

Winning Against Stress

In a four-week study of 150 highly-stressed individuals 28% of those receiving a placebo reported URTI symptoms compared with only 8% of those given Wellmune. The Wellmune group reported a 38% reduction in fatigue, 19% reduction in tension and a 15% reduction in stress-induced confusion and a 42% increase in vigor.

Firefighters Extinguish URTIs

Wildland firefighters taking Wellmune experienced 23% fewer URTI symptoms and a dramatic improvement in overall health compared with their colleagues given a placebo. The single-blind, randomized cross-over study included 54 firefighters.

For the Healthy

In a study of 122 healthy volunteers those participants taking Wellmune daily for 12 weeks reported a statistically significant 58% reduction in upper respiratory tract infection symptoms, compared with individuals taking a placebo. Those taking Wellmune also rated their overall well-being and vigor 9.5% and 11% higher, respectively.

And For the Stressed-Out

Thirty-nine healthy women with moderate levels of psychological stress were either given Wellmune or a placebo. Subjects in the Wellmune group reported fewer URTI symptoms (10% v 29%); better overall well-being and superior mental/physical energy levels.

Reduces Immune Suppression from Exercise

Wellmune WGP may enable athletes to exercise longer and harder with less risk of immune system suppression that normally occurs following high intensity exercise. This was the outcome of a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study at the University of Houston involving 60 recreational athletes engaged in sustained aerobic exercise.

Not All Beta Glucans Are Equal!

Beta glucan size and molecular structure are critical to receptor binding and the resulting innate immune cell response. Some beta glucan structures bind to a particular receptor (Dection-1) while others do not according to a Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles study. When bound to Wellmune WGP, Dectin-1 signaling primed immune cells for phagocytosis, a mechanism used to recognize and destroy pathogens.
